DoD is how empty you are allowed to run the tank.

Depth of discharge is the fraction of nameplate energy you actually use. LFP is happy near 90%. Flooded tubular wants ~50% if you want more than two summers.

Key takeaways

What it is

Usable kWh = nameplate × DoD × round-trip. A 5.12 kWh LFP at 90% and ~95% RTE is about 4.4 kWh at the AC bus after inverter loss. Four 12 V 200 Ah tubulars at 48 V are 9.6 kWh nameplate and ~4.8 kWh usable at 50% DoD.

In Pakistan 2026

Shops still sell “4 batteries for AC all night.” They are counting nameplate Ah and ignoring DoD, Peukert, and the 50% rule. That is how a “night AC kit” dies in August.

How we spec it

On the quote, force usable kWh. For LFP set DoD 90% in the calculator. For tubular set 50% and stop promising inverter ACs at night.

Numbers you can actually use

Street ranges, not a quotation. Confirm the carton the week you book.

Closed-loop CAN shows SoC from the BMS. Open-loop voltage guessing will lie at the knees of the LFP curve. If the shop left protocol on USE, you do not have DoD protection — you have a voltage number and a hope.

Worked example — Quetta

Take a 6 kW-class hybrid in Quetta (QESCO, ~5.8 PSH). 10 × 645 W is 6.45 kW DC. Derated yield ≈ 6.45 × 5.8 × 0.78 ≈ 29.2 kWh on a clean day — then high PSH and cold January Voc. This page (DoD (depth of discharge)) is the piece of that plant people skip on WhatsApp. If your quote cannot survive this Quetta sentence, it will not survive May. Open the calculator with city set to Quetta, and the lookup map for a stocking dealer — not a green-meter SKU.

Keywords this lesson actually answers

People land here asking depth of discharge, usable kwh, 200 ah solar battery. The honest 2026 answers still collapse to: N-type plates with flash, IP65 hybrid with GRID vs LOAD, 51.2 V LFP on CAN, 14 SWG, XLPO, derate 0.78, and net-billing at ~Rs 11 export if you file with QESCO. Everything else on this page is how not to get robbed while buying those things.

FAQ — DoD (depth of discharge)

Can I drain LFP to empty?

The BMS will cut. Doing it every night still ages the pack. Design to 90%.

Why does tubular need 50%?

Lead-acid sulphates when parked empty. Daily 80% DoD is how UPS banks die.

Does DoD change backup hours?

Linearly. Half DoD is half hours. That is the whole night-AC conversation.

kWh (kilowatt-hour)

kWh is the unit on your bill — the bucket, not the tap.

C-rate

C-rate is how hard you pull. Night AC is a C-rate problem.

SoC is the fuel gauge. Voltage is not the fuel gauge on LFP.

LFP (LiFePO4)

LFP is the 2026 house battery. Tubular is a UPS.
