C-rate is how hard you pull. Night AC is a C-rate problem.
C-rate is current relative to capacity. 1C on 100 Ah is 100 A. A 5.12 kWh 51.2 V pack at 0.5C is about 50 A, roughly 2.5 kW at the DC bus before inverter loss.

Key takeaways
- A 1.5-ton inverter AC is ~1.2 kW running and more on a hot start.
- 0.5C on 5 kWh: ~2.5 kW DC — Comfortable house.
- 1C: Brochure peak — Heat and noise.
- Night 1.5-ton: ~1.2 kW running — One pack possible, two ACs not.
- Read the pack’s max continuous charge/discharge amps.
What it is
A 1.5-ton inverter AC is ~1.2 kW running and more on a hot start. One pack can do it if the BMS allows the current and the hybrid surge is honest. Two ACs is two packs or a fantasy.
In Pakistan 2026
Shops ignore C-rate and sell one 5 kWh for “whole house AC.” The BMS then current-limits, the AC brown-outs, and the owner says lithium is fake.
How we spec it
Read the pack’s max continuous charge/discharge amps. Set the hybrid charge/discharge limits at or under that. Size packs so night watts / 0.9 < pack kW at allowed C.
Numbers you can actually use
Street ranges, not a quotation. Confirm the carton the week you book.
| Thing | 2026 number | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5C on 5 kWh | ~2.5 kW DC | Comfortable house |
| 1C | Brochure peak | Heat and noise |
| Night 1.5-ton | ~1.2 kW running | One pack possible, two ACs not |
Worked example — Hyderabad
Take a 10 kW-class hybrid in Hyderabad (HESCO, ~5.3 PSH). 16 × 645 W is 10.32 kW DC. Derated yield ≈ 10.32 × 5.3 × 0.78 ≈ 42.7 kWh on a clean day — then heat derate before paperwork. This page (C-rate) is the piece of that plant people skip on WhatsApp. If your quote cannot survive this Hyderabad sentence, it will not survive May. Open the calculator with city set to Hyderabad, and the lookup map for a stocking dealer — not a green-meter SKU.
Keywords this lesson actually answers
People land here asking c rating battery, discharge current. The honest 2026 answers still collapse to: N-type plates with flash, IP65 hybrid with GRID vs LOAD, 51.2 V LFP on CAN, 14 SWG, XLPO, derate 0.78, and net-billing at ~Rs 11 export if you file with HESCO. Everything else on this page is how not to get robbed while buying those things.

FAQ — C-rate
Does a higher C-rate pack cost more?
Often. Power packs vs energy packs. Houses usually want energy.
Can I raise C in software?
You can raise the inverter limit until the BMS screams. That is not a bigger pack.
Tubular C-rate?
Lead-acid hates high C. Another reason it fails at night AC.

guideHow much battery for night AC
Night AC is C-rate and kWh, not four tubulars and a prayer.
glossaryLFP (LiFePO4)
LFP is the 2026 house battery. Tubular is a UPS.
glossarySurge capacity
Short overload for motors. A 6 kW box may surge 2× for seconds, not for a 2-ton night AC all night.
glossarySoC (state of charge)
SoC is the fuel gauge. Voltage is not the fuel gauge on LFP.
glossaryCAN bus (battery comms)
CAN is how the pack tells the inverter to stop cooking it.
