What it is
Closed-loop means the inverter obeys the pack: charge current, voltage, stop. Open-loop (USE / AGM / user) means the inverter guesses from voltage. LFP’s flat curve makes guessing bad. Warranties care.

Addressing parallel packs
Two 5.12 kWh packs need DIP switches or app addresses so they share current. Identical firmware, identical cables. A lone CAN on pack 1 and pack 2 as a dumb parallel is how one pack works to death.
Worked example — Karachi
Take a 6 kW-class hybrid in Karachi (K-Electric, ~5.4 PSH). 10 × 645 W is 6.45 kW DC. Derated yield ≈ 6.45 × 5.4 × 0.78 ≈ 27.2 kWh on a clean day — then salt air and aluminium iron. RS485 or CAN?
Follow the pack sheet. Some brands offer both. Do not guess from the plug shape.
Will it charge without CAN?
Often yes, badly. Current may be wrong. The BMS may disconnect under the inverter’s nose.
Can I add CAN later?
Yes if the inverter supports the protocol. Do it before the first summer, not after a swollen pack.
